Not everyone has the bandwidth or the time to sit down in front of their computer and game for 36 hours straight. However, many of us still want to scratch our gaming itches and enjoy the experience, even if we do so in moderation.
But where should you go if you’re in this camp? What sort of online games should you be playing?
That’s what we look at in this guide. We look at some quick (and often classic) titles you can indulge in to scratch your gaming itches while avoiding giving up hours of your time.
Diep.io
Diep.io is one of the top games to check out if you’re the sort of person looking to get a gaming fix. This title is essentially a 2D tank shooter game where you need to destroy shapes and gain experience as you level up. Essentially, players control a tank in the arena and then try to survive in deathmatch situations, with metrics like bullet damage and hull strength.
Of course, this game isn’t for the faint of heart. You have to be at the peak of your game in order to compete. But it can also be a lot of fun, so it’s well worth checking out if you get the time.
Among Us
Among Us is another game you can dip in and out of. This title seems simple when you first fire it up, but it becomes so much more involved and exciting the longer you continue playing it and when you understand all the mechanics.
Essentially, you’re a little astronaut on a spaceship, and your job is to fix things that break on each map. Unfortunately, there are impostors onboard who randomly kill people. Your job is to deduce who is doing all the murdering after it happens, voting in a special menu who you’d like you see eliminated from the game (and become a ghost).
If you’re an imposter, that’s even more interesting because you have to subtly kill other astronauts while pretending to do essential ship maintenance work. Just make sure nobody sees you doing the deed!
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 is another option if you like fast-paced games. This co-op shooter puts you and a bunch of friends in a room and gets you to battle a bunch of bugs and robots on a hostile planet.
The reason this game is fun is because it is team-based. You’re actually working with other humans to defeat waves of computer attackers. You have to be cooperative, though. Players must use different strategies, turrets and airstrikes to push back the forces of darkness in what often becomes a frantic and somewhat chaotic melee. Again, it is well worth checking out if you have a chance, even if you’re at work.
Online Solitaire
Of course, you don’t need to opt for a brand new concept to have fun gaming online. Solitaire is still an option.
These days, there are sites that offer this game for free so anyone can access it at any time. All you need to do is literally load up the site. There’s no requirement to enter payment details or provide an email address. All you do is play, and that’s it. It’s really simple.
Plus, for most people, solitaire is a game that feels familiar. There isn’t a gigantic learning curve associated with it. If you’ve done it on Windows in the past or with a real deck of playing cards, you should be able to get into it pretty quickly.
Roblox
Roblox is another famous game that’s really doing the rounds at the moment. The idea is popular because you essentially enter a never-ending digital playground where you can play community-generated games. These comprise everything from horror fantasies to business simulators.
In that sense, Roblox is a bit like Minecraft. You can constantly replay it over and over, thanks to its numerous social features and the fact that new versions of the game are coming out all the time. What’s more, it’s the sort of game where you get to meet a lot of other people and friends, so it’s social as well, which is nice.
Fall Guys
You could also use Fall Guys to scratch your gaming itch. Why? Because this battle royale is pure, unadulterated mayhem.
The idea behind this game is to compete on various obstacle courses. You have to find a way to make it through challenging circuits and out the other side until you find someone who’s crowned. (Hopefully you!)
This game isn’t something you’d want to play for, say, 36 hours straight. But it is the sort of thing you can dip in and out of with your friends over a weekend. It’s also easy to pick up, so almost anyone can log in and start their adventure.
Fortnite
Fortnite is more of a battle royale (perhaps the most famous in the world). The idea is to put up to 100 players into a single arena and get them to scavenge weapons and build forts. The goal is to be the last person standing, combining shooter and creative builder elements, making it highly addictive.
Fortnite is also the sort of game that pays you for continuing to return to it. Every season, there are new events to enjoy like concerts or seasonal faires. These make you want to keep returning for more.
GTA Online
Finally, if you love anarchic gameplay, you might want to check out GTA Online. This game, set in Los Santos, is more of a sandbox than ever before, allowing you to do things you can’t get away with in virtually any other game.
For example, you could spend 20 minutes trolling pedestrians with your crew, or you could race supercars through twisting crowded streets. It’s the open-world experience you’ve always been looking for.
What’s more, developer Rockstar has done a good job of turning Los Santos into a living, breathing city. Things change through the day and night, making it so much more realistic than other games.
